Grand Canyon National Park; South Rim Hike & Backpacking Trek

Image
On Sunday (4/30/17), we backpacked down to the bottom of the Grand Canyon via the South Kaibab Trail. It was 7.1 miles which took us 3 hours (elevation change of 4,780 ft). We camped at the Bright Angel Campground (reservation required) and slept in an amazing spot right next to the Colorado river. Per the NPS website , you may spend up to two nights (consecutive or non-consecutive) per campground per hike. One exception is made to this rule: from November 15 - February 28, up to four nights per campground per hike is allowed. To camp in one of these campgrounds you must obtain a backcountry permit. We hiked back up the Canyon on Monday morning via the Bright Angel trail. This was a 9.9 mile strenuous hike which took us 7 hours. Truly an unforgettable experience and I'm so blessed and thankful to have had the opportunity to do this!
